The Ordinary Retinol 0.5% in Squalane 30ml

The Ordinary Retinol 0.5% in Squalane is a water-free, oil-textured serum with a lightweight, non-greasy finish that positions itself as an intermediate-strength anti-ageing treatment. Sitting in the middle of The Ordinary’s retinol range, it delivers 0.5% pure retinol in a squalane base, targeting visible fine lines, uneven skin texture & tone, photodamage, and general signs of ageing.

This is strictly a PM formulation. Retinol increases sun sensitivity, making evening-only use essential & daily SPF a non-negotiable the morning after. It belongs in the treatment step of your night routine, applied after water-based serums & before heavier moisturisers. It is not recommended alongside direct acids, vitamin C, or other retinoids.

Retinol (0.5%) — a form of Vitamin A — drives cellular turnover & collagen synthesis once converted to retinoic acid in the skin, addressing wrinkles, pores & hyperpigmentation. Squalane serves as the delivery base: a stable, plant-derived hydrocarbon that mimics the skin’s own lipids, reinforces the moisture barrier, & cushions against retinol-induced dryness. Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride & Jojoba Seed Oil add emollient slip, while Tomato Fruit Extract, Rosemary Leaf Extract & BHT provide antioxidant protection to preserve formula stability.

How to Use: Patch test before first use. Apply 2–3 drops to clean, dry skin in the evening, 2–3 nights per week to start. Gently press into face & neck, avoiding the eye contour. Increase frequency gradually as skin builds tolerance. Always follow with SPF the next morning. Refrigerate after opening. Not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
