The Ordinary Lactic Acid 5% + HA is a lightweight, water-based exfoliating serum with a fluid, non-greasy finish. Positioned as a gentle entry point into acid exfoliation, it delivers mild surface-level resurfacing suited to dry, sensitive, or acid-new skin types. At pH 3.8 â matched precisely to lactic acid’s pKa â the formula maximises acid effectiveness while keeping irritation low.
This serum is formulated for PM use only. Because AHAs increase photosensitivity, it should not be applied in the morning without diligent SPF follow-up. In an evening routine, apply it after cleansing & toning but before oils, creams, & moisturisers. Beginners may start 2â3 nights per week, building frequency as skin develops tolerance. It is not recommended for use alongside direct vitamin C, peptides, or other strong acids.
The 5% lactic acid acts as both an exfoliant & a humectant â loosening dead cell bonds at the surface while drawing moisture into skin. Sodium Hyaluronate Crosspolymer (a cross-linked HA) offers up to five times the water-binding capacity of standard hyaluronic acid, delivering sustained surface hydration. Tasmanian Pepperberry Extract (Tasmannia Lanceolata) serves as a natural anti-irritant, calming any sensitivity triggered by acid exfoliation. Glycerin & Propanediol further support hydration & skin feel.
